29 April: A good week last week, and a big week this
|(Friday, 29 April) Last Saturday the 1sts won by 56 runs against a Strong Bexley side. Nick Storey again the pick of the bats with 71 as we made 189 for 9 off 40. A tough day turned tougher as young all rounder Andrew Corbin dislocated his shoulder. Down to 10 men we bowled and fielded well with good spells from all bowlers (4 wits from James Soulsby). Get well Andrew.
The 2s made 180 with Stuart Ferguson (46) the star. We didn’t really bowl or field well and were grateful when thunder and lightning descended on Burbage Road to stop Bexley 2s In their tracks. They were 2 down with about 60 to get.
The 3s won a tight one. Simon May (65) batted well and also showed handy skills with the gloves. We scored 149 and then bowled and fielded as a tight unit to restrict Dulwich Xavorians – another good win.
The Sunday 2s won a thriller against Chingford by one wicket in the last over, captain Begg battling in a last wicket partnership to see us home. 50s from Jay Mahey and James Balmforth setting up the win. The 3s were beaten although they made life difficult for Old Rutlishians.
A huge one. Last week of five friendlies for the Saturday teams and 2 Sunday senior games. The Academy start with a friendly at home on Sunday and the Ladies play their first game away at Bells Yew Green.
The Colts start their coaching programme across all age groups and after one cup match in midweek there are games for u15s at h to Purley, both u13 teams and the u10a team.
A big weekend. Play well everyone.
Cheers, Tim Brown
