Plans for outdoor nets

We want to get started outside as soon as possible so the plan is for the senior men’s sessions to take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at our main ground (address below). At the start we are happy for players to attend as they see fit and are able.

But in a few weeks (probably from the end of April) we will move to a more structured arrangement, with the 1st and 2nd XIs practicing on a Thursday and the remainder on a Tuesday. This split is not ideal but helps manage the expected numbers and also allows the 1st and 2nd XIs to have a focused practice.

First practice sessions

The first outdoor practices are therefore scheduled for this week on Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th April at our main ground as below. Start time is 6.00pm for these early sessions but will move more towards 6.30pm once the weather and light improves. We appreciate that people may struggle to get there for this time but we would encourage people to come as and when it is possible.

Restrictions and managing expectations

We all know the weather has been bad and we will be extremely limited in what practice we can undertake outdoors. Our nets are OK to use but the outfield is very wet. We are also limited at this time of year by the amount of light. At present batsmen would be struggling much beyond 7.15 or so, if that.

Depending on numbers and what time people arrive it may therefore not be possible for everyone to have a bat but we will try to arrange things such that people get as much benefit as possible. Players should make their own judgment as to what time they would be able to get there and the amount of practice that would be possible.

Bad weather

The forecast for this week is not great but we want to give ourselves the best chance. We will make a decision on whether the training is going ahead around mid-afternoon. We will do our best to e-mail around everyone to let them know, and will also put a quick message on the website.

If you do not see anything or hear anything then presume the session is on. But please also use your common sense if the weather is obviously bad.

Hopefully that covers most things but any questions or concerns let me know.
